Infertility is not an illness for the poor.
I spent this morning googling financial assistance and grants for infertility. There are a few resources out there that I felt compelled to share- although some are state resident based and therefore we will not be eligible for. I figure it is worth a try!
Infertility Treatment Grants and Scholarships
Hope does exist for patients whose primary barrier to infertility treatment is the cost. Below is information about four nonprofit organizations that provide financial assistance to select infertility patients. For details, including application deadlines, please visit their websites. 1. B.U.M.P.S Inc by Bringing U Maternal Paternal Success
Assists couples who are having trouble conceiving by issuing grants for fertility-related medical treatments
Candidate selection is based on compelling nature of an applicant’s circumstances, fertility history, financial situation and other determining factors
Preference is given to those with no children

2. The Tinina Q. Cade Foundation
Tinina Q. Cade Foundation’s Family Building Grant provides up to $10,000 per funded family to help with costs medical infertility treatments and domestic adoption
Applicants must have a diagnosis of infertility from their doctor and must be legal, permanent U.S. residents
The application for the 2011 Tinina Q. Cade Foundation Family Building Grant is now online ( http://www.cadefoundation.org/page.php?id=4). This grant can provide up to $10,000 to assist infertile families with costs associated with adoption or the medical treatment of infertility. Applications will be available online until June 1, 2011 and are due by June 5, 2011. Contact Information: http://www.cadefoundation.org
3. Fertile Dreams – The Embracing Hope Grant
Fertile Dreams selects applicants who have medical insurance, but are uninsured for fertility treatment, for grants of $10,000 that can be used toward an IVF cycle at any fertility clinic in the United States
Applicants are asked to supply a proof of income (with a copy of the last two IRS tax returns) and two most recent pay stubs from both partners
Applicants are asked to sign a copyright and media release giving Fertile Dreams full rights to share their story if selected and to be photographed at anytime throughout the treatment process

4. Pay it Forward Fertility Foundation
One grant is awarded annually
The foundation selects applicants who are uninsured for infertility treatments for a grant that can be used toward infertility treatment at a fertility clinic that is a member of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) and located in North Carolina
The grant is awarded to a couple in which the female partner is under the age of 40

5. The International Council on Infertility Information Dissemination (INCID)
Provides IVF scholarships to couples with financial and medical need
The selection committee selects couples based on cost-of-living, submitted paystubs, tax returns and a letter from their doctor recommending IVF as medically necessary

My name is Alberto Rodriguez. I am 32 years old. The purpose of this letter is something that moves me to tears. Let me begin by telling you a little about me and my background. I always loved being close to my siblings and learned to value the relationships that each of my brothers and sisters offer, no matter how different. If it’s something that I always wanted, it’s to be able to enjoy a family of my own that I can help nurture and mold with my strong positive emotion and most of all my faith. My adult life began when I graduated from Pasadena High School and joined the U.S. Army. My wife and I were married shortly thereafter and shared the same family values and wants that seemed to bond us together closer and tighter day by day. She brought to my life a wonderful baby girl that I love and cherish with all my heart as if she was my own. My heart kept tugging at me for the feeling of a blood connection with someone that resembled me in every way. My Stepdaughter always calmed that feeling because of her love and the fact that I see past the fact that she is not of my blood. As the years went on, my wife and I attempted time after time to let our family grow. It seems that the faith I mentioned earlier would be tested time and time again. My heart has grown weary, but still beats with love and faith that soon, I will hold a child of my own. It has been a very tough journey for us with its ups and downs. The hardest thing about it is while you are being forced to be childless your friends move on with their life and get pregnant with their first and sometimes second child while you are wanting just to have your first. I see people having children that do not want them and make them suffer or give them for adoption. It breaks my heart because here I am, a man who would give anything to hold a child of his own and It is not possible any more. I went to our family doctor who referred us to a Fertility Specialist who suggested IVF. Our doctor performed an Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopy procedure for the chance of IUI, but with further evaluation and with the removal of my wife's fallopian tubes, we have to move on to IVF, but we simply can’t afford it. We just bought our first home, a perfect starter home to raise kids in. IVF is very expensive it may not be a lot of money to some, but it was for us – our insurance plan doesn’t cover any infertility expenses! It’s hard to understand why it is happening to us, and there is no answer to that question. The one thing I do know is that God has a plan for each and every one of us, and knows what is best for us. My faith keeps us going and maintaining a sane mind. Though there have been times. I am afraid of growing too weary and afraid that my wife will soon let the stress allow her to give up. There is nothing in this world that my wife would love to give me more than my very own son or daughter. I would be blessed with either; there is NO question about that. But what are we to do? Where can we receive this gift of life? Who could help us in the biggest investment that one could be blessed with? We ask you today, as friends and as people who desire the opportunity to receive a blessing and gift. I don’t want to grow old and not be able to be there for a new child. The time is now for us. I want to give a good life and I know that it is possible only with help. My world is slowly closing the light at the end of the tunnel because of age. My time might pass me by without help. I hope that you find it in your heart to help out a family that has desired this since teenage years. Our new child would be loved and nurtured to the best of our abilities and would bring a missing piece to our family and our lives. Thank you for your time I really appreciate it.
